Xavier School of Sustainability (XSoS), Xavier University, Bhubaneswar (XUB) hosted a significant event, the annual XUB Sustainability Summit - 2016 at XIMB campus and XUB Xavier City Jatni campus, during August 11-13, 2016. The theme of this year's summit was Energy, Peace and Global Governance. The core agenda of the summit was to create a movement for putting energy and peace in the centre of discourse, to mainstream sustainability in management education and to create a platform at XUB for institutional network among all the actors to promote the mentioned theme.

Smart City project gets five independent directors: The appointment of a panel of independent directors has given the Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited (BSCL) domain experts to advise the new company on execution of the ambitious project. The BSCL already has eight board members and with the appointment of the independent directors, the special purpose vehicle is now fully formed. The state government on Monday appointed the five independent directors to BSCL — Madhav Pai, Saveeta Mohanty, Aamer Azeemi, Sandipan Chakravortty and Bhavin Sheth. Xavier School of Sustainability in association with the United States India Education Foundation (USIEF) hosted a workshop on “Skills for Air Quality Management” (SAQM), Knowledge partners include National Environmental Engineering Research Institute and Green Health Foundation.
There were various eminent speakers, including Dr. Diya Dutt of the USIEF Alumni Association, Dr. Tanutrushna Panigrahi of the Fulbright Indian Alumni Chapter Leader and Dr. Rakesh Kumar, Director CSIR-NEERI.
The one-day HR symposium was organised to familiarize students with current initiatives and challenges in the field of HRM and disseminate views of academia and HR practitioners.

XIMB,XUBhosted the 14th International Conference on Information Technology 21-23 December, in collaboration with Orissa Information Technology Society and IEEE.The conference signifies a milestone in keeping pace with the latest research trends in the various fields of IT.The three-day event comprised of several Keynote Addresses, Invited Talks and Paper presentations. There were 54 participants and 24 paper presentations during the conference.

The National Conference on “Make-in-India Initiative and Changing Paradigms of Industrial Relations”.Hon’ble Justice ShriGopalBallavPatnaik, former Chief Justice of India delivered the Inaugural keynote address. Prof. (Dr.) E.M Rao, was felicitated and honored during the conference for his immense contribution to the field of IR and Labour Laws. Dr. Rao is the former Dean of XLRI, Jamshedpur and former professor, Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar. The conference brought together eminent speakers from different stakeholder groups. There were speakers from academia like Prof. EA Ramaswamy, former Professor at IIMB and ISS at the Hague, and Prof. PK Padhi, Professor XLRI. There were HR leaders from industry, e.g. Mr. RajanSinghal, ED Corporate HR, Varun Beverages, and Rear Admiral NK Misra, CMD Hindustan Shipyards Ltd. among others. Mr. Mahadevan, President AITUC brought in perspectives from the trade unions and Dr. Tapas Panda, Regional Labour Commissioner (Central) spoke from the view point of the government.

The conference also had two sessions of panel discussion, one on 'News Media' and the other on 'Odia film industry'. Mr.Krishna Prasad (Editor- in-Chief Outlook), Ms. Liza Roy, (Zee T V Mumbai) and Mr. Sandeep Sahu (BBC Odisha) constituted the panel at the opening session with Mr. Pradhyuman Maheswary (MxM Mumbai) as the moderator. The Film directors Mr. Nila Madhab Panda, Basant Sahu, and the renowned Odia film actor Mr. Anubhav Mohanty participated in the panel discussion on the topic " Odia Film Industry today’.
